COVID-19: White House officials speak as US set to reopen its borders with Canada, Mexico | FULL
CA, 13 Oct 2021
During a COVID-19 update on Wednesday, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Jeffrey Zients said that 77 per cent of Americans have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine.
He added more than 3,500 organizations of various sectors have adopted vaccination mandates.
This briefing comes following an announcement of the reopening of the U.S. land borders with Canada and Mexico, which will take place in early November for fully vaccinated travellers. A specific date has not yet been announced.
Senior White House officials said details of the new rules would include the kind of vaccines that will be accepted. Earlier this week, the U.S. also said it would accept the use of international visitors of COVID-19 vaccines authorized by U.S. regulators, or the World Health Organization. It is not yet known if this will also apply, however, to non-essential travellers from Canada and Mexico. There is also no information yet on whether those who received mixed doses of COVID-19 vaccines would also be allowed entry.
