Report slams UK's early pandemic response as "one of the most important public health failures"

A new scathing report released by British lawmakers is slamming the U.K. government, citing dozens of failures made in its early response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It says the government decisions on delaying lockdowns "rank as one of the most important public health failures the UK has ever experienced."

It also says thousands of lives could have been saved had authorities acted more quickly. An analysis by Imperial College London has estimated an earlier start to the lockdown could have saved between 16,000 and 36,000 lives.

Redmond Shannon has more on the findings, and where else they say Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government fell short.
