On this episode of Global National: After 18 months and billions of dollars spent, federal financial relief support is being scaled back in Canada as many business owners try to keep their heads up in the COVID-19 pandemic. But, many are still ineligible to get retooled and more targeted subsidies. Abigail Bimman explains how Ottawa is moving from broad financial backstops to a more targeted approach – and who's getting left behind.

Canada is not out of the pandemic yet, but parts of British Columbia and Ontario are lifting their COVID-19 capacity limits as of midnight Monday. The easing of rules for both provinces comes while Saskatchewan's hospitals are still grappling with the strain of COVID-19 patients. As Heather Yourex-West explains, the situation unfolding in that Prairie province could serve as a cautionary tale.

On North America's West Coast, weather experts say a “bomb cyclone” is coming in too fast and too furious, setting up a weather whiplash throughout the region in both the United States and Canada. The storm is set to drop 300 millimetres on California, which has been suffering through severe drought and relentless wildfires. As Jennifer Johnson reports, residents are bracing for flash flooding, hurricane force winds and major mudslides.

And ahead of world leaders gathering for the COP26 climate summit, many artists are already working to open the world's eyes to the reality of our environment and the dangers of human-caused climate change ahead.
